Best Cruises for Couples: Pick #1 – Seabourn Cruiselines

If you are looking for that truly exclusive and personalized feel on a cruise then look no further than Seabourn. Their ships have a maximum capacity of 450 guests, in 225 suites, 90% of which have a balcony. One of the challenges other larger cruise ships tend to face, especially in the prime season, is overcrowding. There is also an unmatched level of customer service, with nearly a 1:1 crew to passenger ratio you will never find yourself in need. This level of service does come at a cost though, if you are looking for a bit more of a economical option check out our other more general guide on cruises.

Locations, Costs, Services

Seabourn offers cruise locations all over the world, so wherever you want to travel, chances are Seabourn voyages there as well. Routes include: Alaska, Pacific Coast of America, Canada/New England, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Transatlantic, South America, Antarctica, Northern Europe, Mediterranean, Arabia, Africa, India, Asia, and Australia.

So, how much is this going to hurt your wallet? Well it depends, the length of the trips (which can be up to three weeks), location, and time of year all affect the pricing. Here are a couple examples we found.

Coming in at about $260 a day, that is not a bad price for almost a full month of vacation for you and your loved one. This is the average price range you will find for Seabourn cruises.

Other than some reservation only cruises (one of which is a 162 day around the globe trip), this is about the highest price on cruises that Seabourn offers.

However, this is what you get with these hefty price tags. All alcohol and food is complimentary. This even includes The Grill by Thomas Keller. An award winning chef who is the culinary genius behind three Michelin starred restaurants. All on-board activities are also included. (massages, spas, movies, pretty much anything your heart desires) About the only thing that isn’t included is activities and accommodations for children. However, seeing as this is a romantic getaway cruise that should not surprise anyone.

Overall, although you do pay a premium for the experience, if you can afford to save up some for a special trip with that special someone then the experience will more than make up for the cost.

Best Cruises for Couples: Pick #2 – Azamara Club Cruises

Similar to the Seabourn cruises, Azamara has a low passenger count. This keeps that intimate atmosphere and boasts an excellent (2:1) passenger to crew ratio. Azamara also has trips all over the world, however, they only have two operating ships so it might be a little more difficult to find the perfect time and location. The ships are also a bit larger than Seabourns with a maximum capacity of 690 passengers. Compared to the maximum capacity of most major cruise lines (about 3000) you are still guaranteed a lack of crowds and easy to find privacy.

At about $250 a day, and for a prime time summer cruise, Azamara is quite competitive in the world of luxury cruise lines. They also have an excellent selection of short cruises for those among us that are more crunched for time.

Overall, Azamara cruises seems to be the best bang for your buck. They do a particularly good job of helping you schedule your excursions in advance with their Voyage Planner. For those among you who like to plan every little detail this will be particularly satisfying. For those that like to go with the flow, fear not, it is also easy to just pick what you want on the cruise.  While they are not the cheapest in terms of the luxury cruise lines, you will find yourself having the most amenities whilst spending the least.

Best Cruises for Couples: Pick #3 – Oceania Cruises

While not as private as the previous two picks, Oceania cruises is the best of the luxury cruises if you are on a tight budget. While they still offer a competitive passenger to crew ratio (about 2:1). They also tend to have a larger capacity than our previous two picks (about 1250 passengers). However, you can also get the more small and secluded feel since two of their ships only carry about 650 passengers. Oceania would be the perfect option for newlyweds looking for the ideal honeymoon.
